For those not fortunate enough to have a relative or friend who fishes and can introduce them to angling, it can be difficult to become involved in the sport. If there’s one sport or hobby that has to be taught, it’s fishing. Consider for a moment other sports, you can buy the equipment and learn the basics of tennis without a coach, but to go beyond the basics, you’ll need a coach. As for fishing! You can buy someone a rod, reel, line, hooks, etc., but I defy anybody to learn to fish without being shown. The Introductory Days provide the beginner with the knowledge they need to allow them to confidently begin their fishing career. All tackle and bait is provided for all the sessions. Chris run's a full programme throughout the school holidays. If you are unsure about giving the sport a try, or think you might get bored spending a whole day by the waterside, then why not come along to a taster session. Fishing is fun, go on give it a go!

Introduction to Coarse Angling Days: These are principally aimed at anyone interested in taking up coarse angling they have proved popular with both adults and youngsters alike. Parents are more than welcome to learn along with their children if they wish to take part. The Introduction to Coarse Angling Day's are the complete beginners guide to Coarse angling, uncovering the complexities of tackle and tactics, taking away some of the mysteries and cutting through the jargon surrounding angling terminology. It explains the life cycles and habits of some of our most popular species of fish and associated freshwater fauna. The licences and permits required, as well as the legislation, rules and bylaws covering the sport will all be covered. As will angling etiquette, the countryside code, safety, fish care and conservation.

Introduction to Grayling Fishing: In association with Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructors Glyn Freeman and Clive Mitchelhill Chris Bowman Fishery Management brings you the complete grayling fishing tuition day. Learn something of the natural history of the grayling, its feeding habits, angling entomology, fly tying, fly casting as well as bait fishing for grayling on an exclusive private stretch of the river Eden.

Introduction to Carp Angling Days: Boilies, hair rigs, bolt rigs, spods!!!!!! Chris will cut through all the complicated jargon that can make getting involved in carp angling seem daunting and off putting. He will explain something of the life cycle of the carp and the history of carp fishing in this country. He will show you tried and tested carp catching methods and explain tackle, tactics and bait. The licences and permits required, as well as the legislation, rules and bylaws covering the sport will all be covered. As will angling etiquette, the countryside code, safety, fish care and conservation. Because carp angling is a little more specialised and can involve the capture of large hard fighting fish it is recommended that participants should have had some experience of angling and an understanding of the basic techniques before trying carp angling. (The introduction to coarse angling days and courses provide beginners with an excellent grounding in basic techniques).

Introduction to Coarse Angling and Lure Fishing for Pike Taster Sessions: Ideal for  those who are unable to attend the full day courses, or anyone wanting to try angling but who do not have the time to spend a full day at it. Ideal for families, if Mum and Dad are unsure about spending a whole day fishing with the kids then why not come along and try one of the two hour taster sessions. Once you’ve had a taste I’m sure you’ll be hooked!

Introduction to Pike Angling Days: These are principally aimed at anyone interested in taking up pike angling. However because pike angling is a little more specialised and can involve the capture of large hard fighting fish it is recommended that participants should have had some experience of angling and an understanding of the basic techniques before trying pike angling. (The introduction to coarse angling days and courses provide beginners with an excellent grounding in basic techniques). The Introduction to Pike Angling days will cover a range of tried and tested pike angling techniques, tackle, tactics baits, lures, fish handling, unhooking, fish care, as well as covering the pikes life cycle, feeding habits, history, myths and legends concerning pike.

The 'Introduction to' days provide participants with the knowledge and confidence required to take up that particular type of angling themselves.

The days and evening taster sessions convey the message that fishing is fun and do so by teaching participants the basic fundamentals of the sport in an uncomplicated easily understood manner so that they learn correctly and enjoy themselves right from the start. All tackle and bait is provided.

For all the day sessions minimum age is 10 years old and because some youngsters  can have a limited concentration span it is recommended that they try a taster session before enrolling on a full day session, however all children are different, if in doubt as to what course to try telephone Chris for a chat first. Younger anglers can take part provided that a parent or guardian supervises them during the session.

The days are intended as the ideal introduction to angling for anyone who has ever wanted to take up the sport but has never known how to go about it. Whether you are an absolute beginner or a 'return to fishing adult' these day's have something to offer you.

The 'Introduction to' Days last for 5 hours. The Taster Sessions last for 2 hours but starting times vary depending on the time of year. Times and duration's of more specialist sessions may vary.

Participants should bring a packed lunch and drinks for day sessions (hot drinks during winter months), wellies, and waterproofs, plenty of warm clothing, a hat for shade. Sunscreen in hot weather and sunglasses, which not only allow anglers to see through reflective glare on the water surface but also, provide protection to the eyes. It is far better to bring more food, warm drinks and clothing than you require for nothing will spoil your enjoyment of the day more than if you are cold, wet and hungry.

For further details of prices or to book your session contact Chris at the address / phone number below or email the details of the session that you are interested in to Chris. Likewise if there is any particular angling discipline you wish to learn more about or you have any questions or queries then do not hesitate to contact Chris.

Above all remember fishing is fun, so let's get out there and have some.
